Club Support for an Overseas Community Hub

Nkuringo Education and Community Support (NECS)

NECS began as a chance encounter with the community in South West Uganda by the founder Jan Duchesne and her husband Steve Knowlden whilst trekking in 2013. ‘How can we help’ was the question. ‘Sponsor a child’s education’ was the
answer. There are now over 400 students in sponsored education.

In 2023, Winslow Rotary club supported the charity by providing some funding to build a new bedrooms and toilet facilities for the school.

In 2024, NECS told us that they were planning to build a Community Hub building as the women of the village have no place to meet and make the craftwork that is sold to tourists. Winslow Rotary have supplied approximately 25% of the building costs of the structure and apart from some fitting out, the building is almost complete.

The photos were taken in September this year when the CEO of the charity, Tara Garritt visited Nkuringo to view the progress.

While she was onsite, the solar panels were fitted, 50% of the furniture delivered and the glazing started.
